Open Peer Review

Open peer review is an approach to scholarly peer review that makes the review process more transparent. Depending on the model used, this may include making reviewer identities, review reports, author responses, or the peer-review process publicly available.

Different Models of Open Peer Review

Open peer review can take different forms. For example:

  • Open identities — reviewers and authors know each other's identities.
  • Open reports — peer-review reports are published alongside the article.
  • Open participation — a wider research community can contribute to the review.
  • Open interaction — authors and reviewers can discuss the work openly.

Not all forms of open peer review involve revealing reviewer identities. Journals and publishers may use different models depending on their policies.

Open Peer Review at the University of South Bohemia

Researchers at the University of South Bohemia are encouraged to be aware of open peer-review practices and the policies of the journals and publishers they work with. Where appropriate, participating in transparent peer-review processes can contribute to more open, constructive, and accountable scholarly communication.

When publishing or reviewing research, researchers should always follow the relevant journal, publisher, and ethical guidelines.
