FAQ
Degree seeking students
-
How do I apply?
First, choose the degree programme you want to study. Admission requirements, deadlines and required documents are set by the individual faculties and may differ by programme.
Check the detailed requirements for your chosen programme and follow the application instructions. Most applications can be submitted online through the USB E-application.
Some faculties also offer double and joint degree programmes developed with partner universities abroad.
-
What level of English or Czech do I need?
The required language level depends on the language of instruction and the specific degree programme. Always check the admission requirements of your chosen programme for the exact language requirement and accepted proof of language proficiency.
Applicants to programmes taught in Czech are required to prove Czech at B1/B2 level. The Faculty of Arts also offers Czech language courses for foreigners at several CEFR levels; check the current course offer before applying.
-
How much does it cost to study at USB?
Degree studies pursued in Czech at USB are tuition-free for students of all nationalities. Tuition fees apply to degree programmes taught in a foreign language and vary by programme and faculty. The current application fee is CZK 500.
For the 2026/27 academic year, a bed in USB dormitories typically costs CZK 3,500-5,500 per month, depending on the dormitory and room type. Other living costs depend on your lifestyle. Always check the current price list and the tuition information for your chosen programme.

Can I get a scholarship?
Yes. International students at USB may benefit from scholarships under the same conditions as local students. There is no specific scholarship awarded solely on the basis of being an international student.
The availability and conditions depend on the type of scholarship and the relevant faculty. You can also explore scholarship opportunities offered by other organisations.
-
Do I need a visa to study in Czechia?
Visa and residence requirements depend on your nationality and the length and purpose of your stay. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens do not need a visa to study in Czechia.
If you are a non-EU citizen, use the official Czech Ministry of the Interior guide to check which visa or residence permit applies to you.
-

Am I eligible for an exchange stay at USB?
Students from partner universities can study at USB for one or two semesters through Erasmus+, bilateral agreements and other exchange programmes. First, check whether your home university has an agreement with USB.
If your home institution is not a USB partner, a freemover stay may still be possible after acceptance by one of the USB faculties.
-
How do I apply for an exchange stay?
First, contact the International Office at your home university and follow its selection process. If you are selected, your home university will nominate you to USB.
After your nomination, the Erasmus+ coordinator at your USB faculty will send you instructions and a link to the online application. Follow the coordinator's instructions and submit the required documents. Erasmus+ students also complete a Learning Agreement.
-
What can I study during my exchange?
Exchange students choose courses offered by the relevant faculty. Your USB Faculty Coordinator will help you with course selection and your Learning Agreement.
You may also take courses from another USB faculty, but at least 50% of your courses must be taken at the faculty where you are registered. Explore the Course Catalogue to find available courses.
If you are interested in an individual internship, contact the International Office of the relevant faculty or the workplace directly. USB does not maintain one central list of internship positions.
-
What level of English do I need for an exchange stay?
You need a good command of English in order to follow courses taught in English. The usual required level is B1/B2, but the exact requirement is specified in the agreement between USB and your home institution.
Students taking courses in English are not required to have any knowledge of Czech. If you are unsure about the requirement, contact the International Coordinator of the faculty where you will be registered.
-
Does USB offer accommodation for exchange students?
Yes. Exchange students can request accommodation in USB dormitories during the online application. The specific dormitory and room type are assigned according to current availability and capacity; most USB dormitories are located directly on or close to the university campus.
Current accommodation conditions and prices are published by USB Dormitories and Refectories. České Budějovice also offers lower living costs than many European university cities.
