Mgr. Helena Lohrová, Ph.D.

Mgr. Helena Lohrová, Ph.D., has been an Assistant Professor at the Institute of English Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, since 2010. She graduated in Teaching English and Geography from the Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia in Plzeň, and earned her PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Birmingham in 2012. Her doctoral thesis, Internal Meetings: The Process of Decision-making in Workplace Discourse, examined decision-making in workplace meetings through longitudinal conversation analysis. She subsequently developed this research in her monograph Decision-making in Meetings Discourse: Applied Linguistic Research (Academia, 2015).

Before joining the University of South Bohemia, she taught English at a secondary grammar school and English for Specific Purposes at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. During her doctoral studies, she worked at the English for International Students Unit (EISU) at the University of Birmingham. At the University of South Bohemia, she teaches linguistics, discourse analysis and Business English, and supervises Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.

Alongside her teaching and research, she has a long-standing involvement in international cooperation in teacher education. From 2020 to 2026, she coordinated the successive Erasmus+ projects TEFE and TEFE A+, focusing on the internationalisation of teaching practice, cooperation between universities and schools, and the development of the competences of future teachers of English. She also contributes to the organisation and teaching of international intensive education programmes. She serves as the Erasmus+ coordinator for the Institute of English Studies.
