PhDr. Štěpán Balík Ph.D. (* 1976, Prague, Czech Republic) graduated at Charles University: Czech language and literature – Slavonic studies (2004). During 2004-2006, he worked as a teacher of Czech language at the Department of Slavic Studies at Jagiellonian University. In Cracow, he founded Český stůl (Czech Stammtisch), where Czech films, literature, music and lectures were presented. He has received Ph.D. at the Institute for Czech Studies at the Southern Bohemian University (Topic: The picture of a Jew in Czech and Polish literature of the first half of 20th century; 2011). He is an assistant professor here, teaching mainly linguistic and less literature subjects, (e.g. old Czech grammar and Czech dialects, lexicology, Polish, comparative literature and linguistics, etymology). He is also a member of The Centre for the Study of the Holocaust and Jewish Literature at the Charles University. His academic focus is concentrated on Jewish-Slavic Literature and Comparative Literatures, Shoa in the Czech and Polish Literature, Stereotypes in language and literature, Problems of Identity in Literature and Language, Jewish Ethnolect and Yiddish. His articles, reviews, translation from Polish and Yiddish, poems etc. were published in home or foreign conference proceedings, collective monographs and journals (in Czech Aluze, Babylon, Časopis Matice moravské, Česká literatura, Divadelní revue, Maskil, Milk & Honey, Plav, Slovo a smysl, Tvar, Weles and Polish  Studia Judaica, Studium, Teksty Drugie, Poznańskie Studia Slawistyczne etc.). He published monograph Jidiš v židovském etnolektu a moderní židovská literární identita v Čechách (Yiddish in Jewish Ethnolect and Modern Jewish Literary Identity in the Czech Republic; 2015) and he took part in monograph Cizí i blízcí. Židé, literatura, kultura v českých zemích ve 20. století (Close and Foreign, Jews, Literature, Culture in the Czech Lands in 20th Century; 2016) and Handbook of Polish, Czech, and Slovak Holocaust Fiction. Works and Contexts (2021).
