The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice hosts a contest of young biologists from all over the country

České Budějovice has become the venue for the prestigious Biology Olympiad for four days – this year’s central round is held under the patronage of the Faculty of Science at the University of South Bohemia and the Jírovcova Grammar School. Thirty-six of the nation’s best high school students will showcase their skills.
They face challenging theoretical tests, practical tasks, and field challenges that will test their knowledge and skills in biology, all revolving around the theme "Memory." The top four contestants will advance to the global stage – the International Biology Olympiad. Before this international competition, the selected students will attend a preparatory training session in June (the so-called "Nalejvárna") at the Faculty of Science at Charles University.
The Biology Olympiad is a prestigious competition that supports young talent in the natural sciences and motivates them toward further studies and scientific careers. This year’s central round in České Budějovice promises not only intriguing competition tasks but also an inspiring environment for young biology enthusiasts to meet.
“For me personally, as well as for our entire faculty and university, it is a great honor to host the central round of the Biology Olympiad and to welcome the top young talents in biology to the academic grounds of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. This competition holds an exceptional status in the Czech environment – it is not only a showcase of extraordinary knowledge and skills but also an important inspiration for the future generation of scientists,” adds František Vácha, Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of South Bohemia.
“Participating in the central round of the Biology Olympiad has long been my goal, and I am very happy to meet people from all over the country who share my interest in biology. I like the friendly atmosphere, and I find it great that such an event can take place here in Budějovice and not just in Prague,” shares her thoughts one of the participants in the central round, Šárka Litvínová, a student of Jírovcova Grammar School.
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, April 25, at the town hall in České Budějovice.
