The twenty-sixth year of the Werner von Siemens Awards for engineering and science students and young scientists has been announced. ‘I often hear from the winners of previous years of the Werner von Siemens Awards that the award has helped them further their scientific and academic careers or obtain grants. I am looking forward to seeing top work and nominations of unique individuals in this year's competition as well,’ said Eduard Palíšek, CEO of the Siemens Group in the Czech Republic, at the launch of this year's competition. Candidates can apply via the website www.cenasiemens.cz until 30 November 2023.
The next year of the competition will distribute one million CZK in eight categories, with the best graduation and dissertation thesis category, along with the students, receiving an award and a financial reward for thesis supervisors/teachers. The financial rewards distributed by Siemens over the past 25 years among the 450 winning students, scientists and teachers amounted to CZK 15.3 million.
The general public can also participate in the nominations this year – candidates and their work can be nominated via the website www.cenasiemens.cz. If the nominated candidate wins, the nominator will receive a bonus of CZK 10 000.
About the Awards:
The Werner von Siemens Prize is organised by Siemens Czech Republic together with important representatives of universities and the Czech Academy of Sciences, who are also the guarantors of the individual categories and participate in the evaluation of the works. The award ceremony is held under the auspices of the Prime Minister Petr Fiala and the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, Helena Langšádlová, as well as the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The Werner von Siemens Prize is one of the most important independent initiatives of this kind in the Czech Republic in terms of its scope, the amount of financial rewards and its history. In the previous twenty-four years of the competition, 450 students, teachers and scientists have been awarded prizes, and over CZK 15.3 million has been paid out.
