Inauguration of the LOKNI filtration station at the Faculty of Economics of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice

Sustainability and ecology – concepts that are not just empty phrases for the Faculty of Economics of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Proof of this is also the latest venture of the Faculty of Economics – the opening of the LOKNI filtration station. It is a network of smart filtration stations where you can get filtered chilled (sparkling and still) water. Users fill their own bottles, saving hundreds of thousands of PETs per month. The aim is to save as much plastic waste as possible.

The LOKNI filtration station was inaugurated on 20 November 2023 in Building F of the Faculty of Economics of the University of South Bohemia in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty of Economics doc. RNDr. Zuzana Dvořáková Líšková, Ph.D., faculty management, students and journalists. The Faculty of Economics became the first place in České Budějovice to offer this option. This station is open to all students, teachers and other staff of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, and they can fill their own bottles with filtered tap water for free, thus saving the amount of plastic bottles and contributing to sustainability and an ecological approach to our planet.

The Faculty of Economics does not only subscribe to sustainability, but we try to contribute to it in small steps. And another such step, through which we will reduce plastics, is the application and use of the LOKNI system,’ said Zuzana Dvořáková Líšková, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, during the inaugural ceremony. ‘We became frightened by the amount of PET bottles and bottled water. We thought we would try to do something about it, so we came up with the perfect alternative - LOKNI. Our dream is that anyone, anywhere, anytime can get fresh, sparkling and still water in their own bottle.’

Using the station itself is very simple - just download the LOKNI app, select a tariff (in the case of EF, the tariff is free) and then start filling up. LOKNI filters the water - that is, it gets rid of bacteria, impurities and microplastics (larger than 0.2 nm), chlorine and possible odours, and one such device saves about 2,830 kg of plastic per year. In addition, the app allows users to keep track of their consumption patterns and the plastics avoided using, and everyone can keep clear personal and community statistics.
