Fair Breakfast highlighted the importance of responsible consumption

A relaxed morning, the aroma of fair trade coffee, and a friendly atmosphere accompanied the traditional community event Fair Breakfast held on Monday, 11 May in front of the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Economics at the University of South Bohemia. Throughout the morning, students and faculty staff gathered around a shared table, enjoyed small refreshments, and discussed what fair trade means in everyday life.

The Fair Breakfast was not only about food and coffee. The event once again highlighted the importance of responsible consumption and the small decisions that can influence the lives of people on the other side of the world. The event is part of a nationwide initiative supporting fair trade and drawing attention to the working conditions of coffee, cocoa, and banana growers across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Visitors had the opportunity to enjoy fair trade coffee and tea, taste homemade treats brought by other participants, and learn more about the principles of fair trade. Both students and faculty staff took part in the event and especially appreciated the informal and community-oriented atmosphere throughout the morning.

At the Faculty of Economics USB, the Fair Breakfast has a long-standing tradition and builds on the faculty’s broader activities in the field of sustainability and a responsible approach to economics. The faculty has long supported these topics not only through similar events, but also through the promotion of fair trade principles and other sustainable initiatives.

Whether visitors stopped by only briefly between classes and work or spent the entire morning at the event, they left with a pleasant experience, new connections, and perhaps even a new perspective on what a “fair” approach can mean in everyday life.
