Students of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice defended the title of the absolute winner of the South Bohemian Nurse competition on Saturday 8 October 2022 in Jindřichův Hradec.
This is the seventh year that secondary, higher vocational and higher medical schools have been competing in this way in various South Bohemian hospitals. In the seventh year, 17 teams competed in 17 competitive disciplines prepared to correspond to the professional and practical training that students undergo at school. The first competition category, which is intended for third-year students of higher education institutions, was won by team No 1 led by captain Miroslava Koldová. This four-member team, which included Michaela Kováčová, Klára Oklešt'ková and Jakub Prokop, also won the title of the absolute winner at the end of the gala evening, thus defending last year's first place, which also belonged to the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia. The other teams of FHSS USB took second and fourth place.
‘We have a great simulation centre at school where we can try out a lot of things. We trained there. I think we are well prepared from school and practice. Moreover, we are a great team of two general nurses, a midwife and a paramedic,’ said Miroslava Koldová, the captain of the winning team. She specified that her team was only three points short of the maximum of 170 points. The competitors had to show how they could cope with, for example, blood collection, treatment of a newborn, resuscitation, bed preparation, administration of blood derivatives or even catheterisation. It took them until the afternoon to complete the tasks at the individual stations in the Jindřichův Hradec hospital, and Saturday evening was dedicated to the recognition of their achievements in the competition but mainly to the celebration of the medical professions.
Among the first congratulators in the evening in Jindřichův Hradec were Ivana Chloubová, Dean of the USB Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, and Bohumil Jiroušek, Rector of the University of South Bohemia, who emphasised the importance of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, which focuses on the helping professions. 'The mission of the University of South Bohemia is wide-ranging and includes service to the region. We want to do world-class science, but we also want to be of service to our region. I appreciate the fact that such a competition exists – and the fact that the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences defended its absolute victory from last year is a testimony to the quality of the students and their teachers, who once again managed to prepare them so well,' said the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Prof. Bohumil Jiroušek, PhD.
