Dr. Ivo Petrů from the Institute of Romance Studies, Faculty of Arts, USB visited Universidad de Morón in Argentina

In the first week of November, Dr. Ivo Petrů from the Institute of Romance Studies of the Faculty of Arts, USB, visited the partner Universidad de Morón in Argentina. With this Argentinian university, located in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, the Faculty of Arts of the University of Morón is developing intensive cooperation in the pedagogical and scientific fields. Among other things, there is joint research on legal language in the project of building a multilingual database of legal terminology LegTerm, which IRS, Faculty of Arts, USB,  has been developing since 2020.

Dr. Petru met with colleagues from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Arts who are involved in the project on the Argentine side; the local team is led by Dr. Gabriela Leighton, Vice-Rector for Science. He provided them with an update on the database, specifically regarding the project to develop an application that visualizes the relationships between legal concepts, which is being carried out this year with the support of a grant from the TAČR. He also met with the University's management, receiving a warm welcome from the Rector of the UM, Dr. Héctor Lemma, along with the Dean of the UM Law School, Dr. Pablo Navarro, and other UM officials, who expressed great interest in further developing the existing collaboration.

Dr. Petru also gave a lecture on the institutional system and language regime of the European Union, which was listened to attentively by the local students, as European law is not part of the law school curriculum in Argentina. The lecture was attended, among others, by student Francisco Forti, who last year completed his study abroad at the Faculty of Law, during which he also had the opportunity to participate in the LegTerm project.

This year we are expecting the arrival of Argentinian students, the Faculty will also be visited by the Ambassador of Argentina. It is thus obvious that the cooperation between USB and UM, which was initiated in the past by Dr. Markéta Šmídová from IRS, who has been researching Argentine Spanish for a long time, has a promising future.
