Czech Academic Games held in České Budějovice for the first time in history

In mid-June, athletes from Czech universities and colleges will gather in České Budějovice to compete in sports disciplines as part of the 20th-anniversary edition of the Czech Academic Games. For the first time in history, the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is the host and co-organiser of this event.

The Czech Academic Games (ČAH) are the largest student sports event in the Czech Republic. The Games are organised by the Czech Association of University Sports (CAUS) and are held annually in cooperation with a selected university. The games are also a set of the Academic Championships of the Czech Republic.

More than 1 500 students will compete in the South Bohemian capital from 15 to 22 June 2022 for the title of Academic Master in a total of 20 sports, of which 13 are individual and 7 are team sports. The athletes will compete in athletics, football, handball, judo, as well as canoeing, orienteering and golf. ‘It is a great honour for us that the co-organization of the 20th edition of the Czech Academic Games has fallen to the University of South Bohemia and its Faculty of Education, and we are very much looking forward to the Games,’ comments the chairman of the organising committee of the Czech Academic Games 2022 Mgr. Michal Vančura, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Development of the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia.

Registration of athletes for the 2022 Czech Athletics Championships is taking place through the physical education departments of the respective schools until 5 June. Students of all accredited universities of the Czech Republic or higher vocational schools (Vocational Schools) who show a valid proof of study or graduates who have duly completed their studies at the respective school in the calendar year 2022 may participate in the games. Students who have been admitted to studies in the academic year 2022/2023 may also participate on the basis of a letter confirming their admission to study at the respective university.

Complete information, the rules of the individual sports and the dates of the events are available on the Czech Academic Games website. You can follow news from the Czech Academic Games 2022 on the Czech Academic Games 2022 FB page.

The last edition of the Czech Academic Games was hosted in September 2021 by Palacký University in Olomouc, where the Rector of the University of South Bohemia, Prof. PhDr. Bohumil Jiroušek, Dr., together with the Dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of South Bohemia, doc. RNDr. Helena Koldová, Ph.D., took over the imaginary organisational relay baton.
