Zdeněk Pecka graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of South Bohemia, majoring in German Studies and Czech Studies, in 2000.

From 2000 to 2001, he worked as a lecturer in Czech language and literature at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and at Bauhaus University Weimar.

He obtained his doctoral degree in 2009 at the University of Vienna with a dissertation on the Austrian author Thomas Bernhard.

He successfully completed his habilitation in 2023 at the Department of German, Scandinavian and Netherlandic Studies of the Faculty of Arts at Masaryk University in Brno with the work "Code und Kontext. Digitales Erzählen aus Österreich".

Zdeněk Pecka is the Head of the Department of German Studies at the Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia. He focuses on more recent German-language literature and Austrian literature, literature in new media, reading skills and the didactization of literature, and the communicative and rhetorical competencies of teachers.

Since 2025, he has also served as Editor-in-Chief of the academic journal "LINGUA VIVA Journal of Foreign Language Education, Applied Linguistics and Literary Studies". LINGUA VIVA is indexed in the international database ERIH PLUS — European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences. The journal is registered with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic under No. E 15858.
