Water, greenery, life: The great transformation of USB Campus begins
The University of South Bohemia's campus is awaiting a major revitalization in the coming months. The heart of our university will transform into a greener, healthier, and more sustainable place. The revitalization will be carried out by Gardenline s.r.o., which officially took over the space today. Work on the campus is planned for 15 months. During this time, a pond, green roofs, sports facilities, colorful benches, and other elements will be added to improve the microclimate and contribute to biodiversity. Students, employees, and the public can look forward to water features, trees, and flower beds designed to cool the environment and create an urban space for relaxation and sports activities. Six educational trail panels will also be installed on the renovated university campus, covering topics such as biodiversity, alternative energy sources, drinking water conservation, and more.
"The project will significantly help fulfill the University of South Bohemia's goals, which are strongly oriented toward sustainability and socially responsible behavior with elements of a SMART university. The 'green' campus initiative appropriately complements already implemented activities such as the installation of power plants on university buildings, electric mobility, and the creation of new study programs focused on sustainability," says University of South Bohemia Bursar Michal Hojdekr.
"We are very pleased to be able to participate in the implementation of such a significant project. We believe that the result will not only be appreciated but will also benefit everyone who uses and visits the University of South Bohemia campus," adds Gardenline's Commercial Director Karel Uhlíř.
The university joined the Integrated Regional Operational Program project with the aim of systematically responding to current environmental challenges while improving the quality of its campus for students, employees, and the public. Blue-green modifications represent an effective tool for improving rainwater management, mitigating the impacts of climate change, reducing overheating of paved surfaces, and supporting biodiversity in an urbanized environment. After these fundamental modifications, everyone at the university will enjoy a more pleasant and healthier environment for study and work. The revitalization will enhance the aesthetic value of the campus while underscoring the university's responsible approach to sustainable development. Participation in the program is thus not only an investment in infrastructure but also a clear expression of the university's strategic commitment to environmental protection and innovative solutions for the future.
