USB joined Giving Tuesday for the first time - Rector and students donated blood

The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is a member of the Association for Social Responsibility, and this year, for the first time, it joined the global movement of generosity and good deeds, Giving Tuesday, with a call for blood donation. USB has been cooperating with the České Budějovice Hospital for a long time, and after arranging with the Transfusion Department, we invited our students to come and donate blood. Young healthy donors are the most wanted ones. Two blood donation dates were announced, which were filled within an hour. The students in the first group were supported by the rector of our university, Pavel Kozák. It turned out that the willingness to donate and the determination to help are still natural at the University of South Bohemia.

Giving Tuesday is a global initiative that originated in the USA as a counterbalance to the Black Friday shopping frenzy. This year the day fell on December 2, but events are also held on the days before and after this date.

This year's 10th anniversary Giving Tuesday was also a record-breaker. In a single day, people donated 155 litres of blood, raising almost CZK 8.3 million on the Darujme.cz platform. This year, the help is mainly directed to children, people with disabilities, the elderly, people in need and animals.

Thanks to people willing to give, this initiative is no longer just about one Tuesday. It is about a culture of generosity that becomes part of everyday life.
