The Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, prof. PhDr. Bohumil Jiroušek, Dr. , Vice-Rector for International Relations, doc. PaedDr. Radka Závodská, Ph.D. , USB Bursar, Ing. Jiřina Valentová and the Chair of the USB Academic Senate, USBDr. Rudolf Hrubý, undertook an acquisition trip to Vietnam from 22 October 2022 to 28 October 2022.
Their trip included a visit to three Vietnamese universities – Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City (TDTU), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) and University of Cuu Long.

Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), Ho Chi Minh City
TDTU is a public university founded in 1997. It consists of 16 faculties and is one of the most important research universities in Vietnam.
During their visit, the USB delegation held talks with representatives of TDTU management – Acting President Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Director of the European Cooperation Centre (ECC) Dr. Phan Dao, Acting Director of the Institute for International Cooperation and Research Dr. Dinh Hoang Bach and representatives of TDTU faculty management. The programme also included a meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Associate Professor Pham Thi Minh Ly, and the Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety, Dr. Ho Ngo Anh Dao.
The University of South Bohemia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TDTU in 2020, which is currently being developed mainly between the Faculty of Business Administration of TDTU and the USB Faculty of Economics. In the course of the meeting, the possibilities for developing cooperation between the two universities were discussed.
Another important point of the programme was a lecture by the Rector of the University of South Bohemia, Prof. Bohumil Jiroušek, PhD, on the history of South Bohemia, followed by a discussion with students of the degree programme focused on tourism. The students were interested in the heritage conservation in the Czech Republic, the relationship between tourism and environmental protection and what the Czech Republic can offer to tourists from Asian countries.
During the visit, there was also a lecture by JUDr. Rudolf Hruby on the topic of European Union institutions and international and European law for students from the Faculty of Business Administration of TDTU. Together with the Dean of the faculty, the further procedure, especially concerning the preparation and creation of a project for providing instruction for students of this faculty at the USB Faculty of Economics, was discussed. During the visit, the English-Vietnamese book Introduction to the EU Law was also presented, the authors of which are Ing. Martina Krásnická, Ph.D. LL.M. , JUDr. Rudolf Hrubý and Dr. Phan Dao. This textbook will be used for teaching European law in Vietnam as well as for teaching European law at USB.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Ho Chi Minh City
HUTECH is a public higher education institution that was founded in 1990. It consists of 11 faculties, 14 research centres. The university is attended by 23 000 students. The major fields of study at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology include technology, industry, business and management.
During a meeting between the USB representatives and the management of HUTECH, a cooperation agreement (MoU) was signed by the Rectors of both universities on 26 October 2022, which is offered primarily with the USB Faculty of Economics and the USB Faculty of Agriculture and Technology.
University of Cuu Long
University of Cuu Long is a private university that was founded in 2002. It is attended by 12 000 students and consists of 11 faculties: Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Business Administration, Finance – Accounting, Engineering Technology, Agriculture and Fisheries, Information-Communication Technology, Foreign Languages, Economic Law, Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Post-Graduate and also the Institute of International Cooperation and Training.
The programme included a meeting with representatives of the Cuu Long University management – in particular with the Rector Assoc. Prof. Luong Minh Cu, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The interest in cooperation with USB is mainly in the fields of fisheries and water protection, agriculture, law and economics, health sciences (biochemistry, food and drug control), pharmacy and nursing.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the University of Cuu Long during the meeting on 27 October 2022. Possible cooperation is offered especially with the USB Faculty of Economics, USB Faculty of Agriculture and Technology, USB Faculty of Fisheries and Water Protection and USB Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.
The University of Cuu Long also expressed its interest in the possibility of holding online lectures by experts from both universities and invited a delegation of professors from USB to visit the university. It is offering a two-week course in Vietnamese culture and language to students from USB, with the possibility of scholarships and accommodation.
