University of South Bohemia football team in the final of the university league for the first time: silver for the South Bohemians

The University of South Bohemia's football team made it to the finals of the new league model, in which universities compete from 2021 onwards. In 2023 and 2024, the USB football team finished in 4th place. In this year's final they lost to the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen 1:3.

In the first half, the players of our university had the upper hand in the game and the West Bohemians only sporadically got to the end. However, USB players were not able to take advantage of this situation and at halftime the score was 0:0. The second half was even and was decided by better productivity of the opponent, who scored 3 goals. South Bohemians scored one after a goal by Tomas Pecka.
"Even though we were not inferior, UWB won deservedly. It seemed to me that we wanted too much, and that ultimately hurt us in the final stages. Both this game and the whole season, we managed to play well, and I am proud of the boys," said Jan Dvořák, the coach of the USB football team.

USB Rector Pavel Kozák and Vice-Rector Pavel Král came to Pilsen to support the athletes at the final match.
"I want to thank for this personal participation and support in the booth. Thank you also to the viewers at the TV and especially to those who came to Pilsen. At the moment, disappointment prevails, but with the passage of time we will realize what success we have managed to win for the University of South Bohemia," added coach Dvořák.
