University of South Bohemia expresses sincere condolences and joins in the remembrance of Dana Drábová

With regret, we at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice received the news of the loss of the scientist, nuclear physicist, long-time Chairwoman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety, and above all, the strong and exceptional personality of Dana Drábová.

Less than a year ago, in November 2024, she accepted our invitation and became the main guest at the energy conference at our university. During her lecture on the future of nuclear energy in the South Bohemian region, the construction of small modular reactors, and the expectations and reality of this sector, she managed to captivate the attention of all participating students, academics, politicians, and experts with magnetic force. She explained the most complex topics in a human, simple, and direct manner. Her charisma and unique sense of humor engaged students in a way that every academic probably dreams of. However, it was also her courage and ability to speak directly, her willingness to answer all questions, and her straightforwardness that appealed to the young generation in her lectures.

For many students, she was a role model, also because of her stances on the issues of peace and war.

And for many of them, and hopefully for other young people as well, her legacy will remain an inspiration.
