The University of South Bohemia and the National Heritage Institute bolster their partnership for the protection of cultural heritage

The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (USB) and the National Heritage Institute (NHI) have concluded a partnership and cooperation agreement. Director General of the National Heritage Institute Ing. arch. Naděžda Goryczková and the USb Rector, Prof. Bohumil Jiroušek, PhD, signed the agreement today, which aims, among other things, to spread awareness of the importance of protecting cultural heritage.

'The mutual cooperation between the NHI and USB has been going on for 30 years on an informal basis,' says prof. Bohumil Jiroušek, USB Rector, 'hundreds of students, mainly from the Faculty of Arts, but also from the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Economics, have already taken courses on conservation and protection of cultural heritage." Owing to this partnership, students are deepening their professional expertise relevant to heritage conservation and acquiring skills that improve their chances of finding employment. Both parties see this collaboration as a key tool for the long-term sustainability of cultural heritage.

Both partners agreed to further bolster the cooperation between the individual USB faculties and the territorial expert facilities and heritage administrations of the National Heritage Institute. This cooperation includes various activities such as providing part of selected degree programmes, professional training, joint research projects, workshops, seminars and conferences, as well as exchange of scientific information and publication of scientific papers.

Particular emphasis is placed on the provision of teaching of specialised courses related to the protection of cultural heritage. 'I see it as very beneficial to establish cooperation of expert teams in research aimed at deepening the knowledge of cultural heritage and its care within the monument areas under the administration of the National Heritage Institute,' said Naděžda Goryczková, Director General of the National Heritage Institute, adding that this includes cooperation in the care of castle gardens and parks, in the specialized research of castle collections and historical libraries or in archaeological research.

With this partnership, the two institutions commit themselves to increasing cooperation, which will lead to the strengthening of the protection and awareness of cultural heritage and to the further development of cooperation for the benefit of future generations.

The National Heritage Institute is a state contributory organization established under Act No 20/1987, on State Heritage Care, as amended (hereinafter referred to as ‘Act No.20/1987’) by the Ministry of Culture, which is a professional and research organization of state heritage care with nationwide competence.
