The lecture on the development of nuclear energy in the Czech Republic and the South Bohemia Region was a follow-up to last year's conference

The Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the USB hosted today a lecture with an important guest - the Director of the Nuclear Safety Section of State Office of Nuclear Safety Mgr. Štěpán Kochánek. He followed up on a large conference held at the USB Faculty of Science a year ago, which started a dialogue on the future of energy, safety and requirements for expertise in this field. Mgr. Kochánek continued to develop this important topic, focusing on the benefits of nuclear energy for society, the state, and regions, as well as the associated risks and their regulation in the Czech and international contexts. He also discussed the processes of evaluation and deployment of new nuclear facilities, the specifics and potential of small modular reactors (SMRs) and addressed the question of whether the Czech Republic has enough experts to shape this future.

The event was proof of the close links between the University of South Bohemia and the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences with students and prospective students, the USB Career Centre and employers with whom the University has established cooperation. These include the ČEZ, represented by Mgr. Josef Kaňkovský, who is also an external lecturer at the Department of Radiology, Toxicology and Population Protection of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, USB. He reminded that ČEZ has a number of offers of internships, scholarships and other unique chances for USB graduates, which they can find out about HERE.

The meeting in the largest lecture hall E, which was also transmitted to the adjacent hall F, was introduced by PhDr. Zuzana Freitinger Skalická, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Academic and Social Affairs. In the beginning, the Rector of the University of South Bohemia, prof. Ing. Pavel Kozák, Ph.D., emphasized that in connection with the prospect of expanding nuclear energy in the Czech Republic, the University of South Bohemia faces great challenges. In the crowded halls, both current USB students and high school students were introduced to the rich offerings of the University of South Bohemia's eight faculties. The plan is to expand it in the near future with new economic and technical fields of study, including those that will focus directly on nuclear energy.
