The elections to the Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia are coming up. Your vote matters!

The Rector of the University of South Bohemia, Pavel Kozák, has announced elections to the Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia for the 2026–2029 term. The elections will take place on 9 and 10 November 2026. All students and academic staff at the University of South Bohemia have the right to vote and elect their representatives to the Academic Senate. The vote is secret and will be held online at: volby.jcu.cz.

"I would like to ask everyone who cares about what is happening at the university and where it is heading to use their right to vote. This year's elections are particularly important also in view of the changes to the structure, organisation and governance of higher education institutions being prepared by the current government. Low interest on the part of the academic community and weak voter turnout could serve as another pretext for restricting academic self-governance. That is why I ask you: come and vote, and give your Senate those three clicks – the elections are online," urges all students and academics to participate the Chairman of the Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia, JUDr. Ing. Zdeněk Strnad, Ph.D., MPA.

Each of the eight faculties of the University of South Bohemia has 3 representatives from among academics and 2 from among students in the Academic Senate. Each voter has a total of 5 votes: 3 votes for academic candidates and 2 votes for student candidates.

"The Academic Senate is the highest body of the university, in which student representatives can influence the direction of the entire university. Participation in the elections is therefore not a mere formality, but above all an opportunity to choose who will represent students in important decisions," adds the Vice-Chairman of the Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia, Ing. Lukáš Beránek.

The Senate that we elect in November will decide on important matters at our university for the next three years. It is a body that, for example, approves the university's budget, nominates a candidate for Rector, oversees the activities of the university's management and approves some of its internal regulations. The elected representatives of the Academic Senate are also students who represent the voice and interests of students. The highest possible student turnout in the elections is therefore very important: you are choosing your representatives, whom you can turn to over the next three years, and whose role is to ensure that students' ideas and requirements are reflected in university self-governance.
