Lecturers from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of South Bohemia have become members of the prestigious international organization Sigma Theta Tau International

Lecturers from the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of South Bohemia have achieved a significant professional milestone. They have become new members of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. They were admitted through the Ohio State University chapter (USA), one of the world’s leading universities. Its representative, Professor Dianne Morrison-Beedy, presented them with the symbols of membership at the international nursing symposium held on September 18–19 at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the University of South Bohemia. At the opening ceremony, they were welcomed by the dean, Dr. Ivana Chloubová; the vice-dean for science and research, Prof. PhDr. Valérie Tóthová; and the vice-dean for international relations, Dr. František Dolák.

“We regard our induction into Sigma Theta Tau as a great honor and an opportunity to develop our professional and international contacts. It is recognition not only of individual effort but also of the high-quality work of the entire faculty,” said the dean, Mgr. Ivana Chloubová, Ph.D.

Membership in Sigma Theta Tau is highly prestigious for the nursing profession and confirms excellence in nursing education and research. The organization unites more than 135,000 members across over 100 countries and provides a platform for sharing experiences, supporting scientific inquiry, offering grant opportunities, and fostering international collaboration. This achievement therefore significantly strengthens the position of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of South Bohemia in the international academic and professional arena and opens up new opportunities for cooperation in nursing education and research.

The symposium launched a new cycle of nursing, scientific, and international meetings. It attracted 70 active participants to the faculty, who examined nursing issues in a broad context through presentations and discussions. Experts from all partner institutions—Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Faculty of Social Sciences and Health Care (Slovakia); the University of Pécs, Faculty of Health Sciences (Hungary); and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Psychology, Collegium Medicum of the University of Rzeszów (Poland)—as well as guests from other countries, including The Ohio State University (USA), came to České Budějovice. The main theme of the 17th edition of this prestigious event, founded by the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of South Bohemia, was the challenges affecting the strengthening of nurses’ roles in modern society.
