Journalist, moderator and science popularizer Daniel Stach will come to USB

Daniel Stach is an acclaimed journalist, a member of the Czech Television Scientific Editorial Office, and a long-time moderator of the popular program Hyde Park Civilization. He has hosted dozens of Nobel Prize laureates in it.

He is a native of České Budějovice. In February 2021, he was awarded the prestigious Ferdinand Peroutka Prize for Journalism by the Ferdinand Peroutka Society. He became the youngest laureate ever to receive the Vojtěch Náprstek Medal for Services to Science Popularization from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. In October 2024, he received the Medal for Merit from the Mayor of České Budějovice, Dagmar Škodová Parmová, for his extraordinary work in science popularization and for remaining a proud "Budějčák" despite his work in Prague.

In the USB Aula, he will lead two lectures and subsequent discussions on April 14, 2026:

10:00 - 11:30 - So That Science Doesn't Remain on Paper - lecture and discussion for students and academics

How does the Czech Television Scientific Editorial Office work? What interests journalists? What does preparation for an interview or filming a report look like?

16:30 - 18:00 - Welcome Behind the Scenes of Hyde Park Civilization - open lecture and discussion for the public

How are interviews with Nobel Prize winners conducted? How do you talk simply about complex topics? How do you film in a state of weightlessness or under the weight of emotions?

No registration is required for the lectures. Come discuss with Daniel Stach about television work, interviews with top scientists, and other topics that interest you.
