The hockey team of the University of South Bohemia reigns supreme in the regional city once again. In a thrilling battle, they defeated their opponents from VŠTE 4:2. The university derby "Battle for Budějovice" offered excellent sports entertainment and a rich supporting program.
A loud procession of fans set out from the USB campus at 5:30 PM heading towards the stadium. The ceremonial opening of the match at the Budvar Arena took place with the attendance of the Mayor of České Budějovice and the rectors of both universities. Former NHL player Martin Hanzal dropped the symbolic ceremonial puck.
In addition to the hockey match itself, visitors enjoyed a diverse supporting program. Great interest was generated by a burger-eating contest from Bouda Burgers, and during the intermission, singer Vojtaano provided musical entertainment, getting the packed arena singing.
The event also had a charitable dimension. A portion of each ticket sold went to support social services. The spectators themselves decided who would receive the proceeds – Centrum Bazalka received the most votes. Representatives of the Student Union of the University of South Bohemia have already informed the organization about receiving financial support, which will be officially presented to them in the coming days.
The evening culminated in a joint afterparty at the K2 club, where the University of South Bohemia players celebrated their victory.

Great thanks go to all the students who participated in organizing the event – especially members of the Student Union of the University of South Bohemia, the Student Union of VŠTE, ESN USB Budweis, and the Pushrun running club. Thanks to their dedication, another edition of this traditional sports event was successfully organized, with a history dating back to 2016.
