History teachers from the South Bohemian Region discussed new trends in teaching

More than 70 history students at USB and history teachers from throughout the South Bohemian region participated on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in an educational course titled New Trends in History Education. The all-day event at the Aula of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice offered a rich program full of workshops and expert lectures.

The meeting has a long-standing tradition and is organized annually by the Institute of History of the Faculty of Arts at USB. It enjoys great popularity among educators – they particularly appreciate the practical contribution to history teaching, the opportunity for further professional development, and the chance to meet with colleagues from throughout the region.

This year's edition featured presentations by several prominent guests. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts at USB, Prof. PhDr. Ondřej Pešek, Ph.D., personally greeted all those present. An opening address was also delivered by the Director of the Institute of History at the Faculty of Arts at USB, Prof. Václav Bůžek, CSc. The first presentation was given by Mgr. Daniel Pražák, Ph.D., a history and biology teacher at Strossmayerovo náměstí Primary School, didactician and finalist of the Global Teacher Prize Czech Republic 2022, who focused his lecture and seminar on the use of artificial intelligence in history teaching. Mgr. Petr Suchomel, Dr., Director of the Education System Evaluation Department of the Czech School Inspectorate, presented the CSI's perspective on history teaching in Czech schools. The all-day program concluded with a lecture by Prof. Václav Bůžek, which addressed the topic of 500 years since the Habsburgs ascended to the Czech throne and the personality of Ferdinand I.

"We are very pleased by such great interest in the development of history education and we are already looking forward to the next edition," said the main organizer of the event, Mgr. Jaroslav Král, Ph.D., didactician of history at the Institute of History of the Faculty of Arts at USB. "We thank all participants and speakers."
