Hearts for Books collection helps again
The Academic Library of the University of South Bohemia launched the sixth year of the popular charity collection Heart for a Book. From November 18 to December 15, people can bring in used books, which, after inspection, will be sold for a symbolic CZK 50. The proceeds will be donated to the ARPIDA Centre in České Budějovice for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities.
"Almost all of us have a book at home that we are unlikely to open again. It can make someone else happy and help a good cause at the same time," says Helena Vorlová, director of the Academic Library of the University of South Bohemia. As a thank you, donors can choose a Christmas bookmark or a badge with an original motif.
However, collecting books is only one part of the event. "We welcome books of all genres, from novels to fairy tales to cookbooks. Donated books will be sorted on an ongoing basis. For obvious reasons, we cannot accept books that are damaged, soiled or affected by mould. We will resell books in good condition for a symbolic 50 crowns. There is no limit to the maximum donation amount," adds director Vorlová.
The collection and sales point is located on the ground floor of the Academic Library on Branišovská Street in České Budějovice. Books can be brought in at any time during the library's opening hours until 15 December. The book sale will run from Monday, 24 November to Friday, 19 December.
This is the sixth time the Academic Library has organised the collection. "In past years, we have been surprised by the overwhelming public interest. In each edition, amounts in excess of 40,000 crowns have been raised. We believe that this year we will help together," concludes Vorlová.
