Golden triumph at the Czech Academic Games: Karate athletes from the University of South Bohemia swept the competition and dominated the university rankings

The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is celebrating a historic success at this year’s Czech Academic Games. Competing against universities from across the country, its men’s karate representatives delivered phenomenal performances and convincingly secured 1st place in the overall university standings.
With a total of 30 points earned for their sporting achievements, the University of South Bohemia left its rivals far behind. For comparison, Masaryk University and the University of Economics in Prague shared second and third place with an identical score of 13.5 points each. What makes this dominant victory even more impressive is that the University of South Bohemia achieved it in a field of 21 competitors from 11 universities, with only 3 representatives. In terms of efficiency, the South Bohemian athletes were unmatched.
The golden triumph was secured by a trio of outstanding karate athletes who collected medal after medal in their categories:
- Daniel Drábek – delivered a relentless performance in the kumite under 67 kg category, where he claimed 1st place. He also added an excellent 2nd place in the spectator-attractive open weight kumite (absolute category) and was a key pillar of the winning team.
- Martin Drábek – triumphed in the prestigious open weight kumite (absolute category), winning 1st place. In the kumite under 67 kg category, he took 2nd place after a close contest with his brother, and together with Daniel also dominated the team competition.
- Lukáš Jenkner – in the heaviest weight category, kumite over 84 kg, he battled through tough matches to secure an excellent 2nd place, bringing a silver medal back to South Bohemia.
The highlight of the entire Czech Academic Games tournament was the team competition, where the Drábek brothers joined forces and, in the team kumite discipline, earned a well-deserved 1st place for the University of South Bohemia.
We thank all three medalists for their exemplary performance and for representing our university so successfully at the Czech Academic Games, and congratulate them on their fantastic results!
