On Tuesday, 9 May 2023, the central campus of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice hosted an event commemorating the 90th birthday of Olga Havel.
During their speeches, Mrs Olga was remembered not only by the Mayor of the Statutory City of České Budějovice doc. Dr. Ing. Dagmar Škodová Parmová and the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice prof. PhDr. Bohumil Jiroušek, Dr., but also Mgr. Terezie Jenisová, PR and Communications Manager of the Committee of Good Will - Olga Havel Foundation. After the speeches, a new composition by Aneta Langerová ‘Píseň pro Olgu’ was performed by the pupils of Bezdrevská and Dukelská primary schools. The pupils also sang the songs ‘Rozdávejme lásku’, ‘Kdyby tu nic nebylo’ (by Petr Eben) and ‘Cum Decore’ (by Tilman Susato). Afterwards, the invited guests moved to the ground floor of the Academic Library of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice to see the exhibition of photographs ‘Olga Havlová and the Committee of Good Will,’ which was created on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the VDV and which has been touring museums, libraries, castles and other exhibition spaces in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for thirteen years. This exhibition will be on display at the USB Academic Library until the end of May.
About the exhibition:
Thirty-three photographs on 26 posters depict the beginnings of the Olga Havel Foundation's Committee of Good Will, Olga's meetings with children and adults with disabilities, as well as with related personalities, such as Princess Diana, actor Alain Delon and Spanish Princess Christina. Other photographs show the environment of psychiatric hospitals and social care institutions of the time. The photographs were taken by well-known photographers Ondřej Němec, Bohdan Holomíček, Přemysl Fialka, Gabriela Čapková, Zdeněk Chrapek and others.
