About event
The topic of this international conference is the contemporary phenomenon of rising verbal aggression and hate speech in political, social, and cultural discourses, viewed in an international—especially Czech-German—context and from the perspectives of various academic disciplines. Not only on social networks, which are its primary breeding ground, but increasingly also in traditional media, we encounter aggressively sweeping, discriminatory expressions in a wide variety of forms. As a result of the massive interpenetration and merging of real and virtual spaces, this verbal “loss of inhibitions” can no longer be dismissed as “just words”; the boundary between verbal and real aggression is blurring, and the step from words to actions is shorter than ever. The aim of this conference is therefore to highlight this real threat and, in contrast to political, social, and cultural discourses, to thoroughly examine specific manifestations of hate speech and uncover their contexts and underlying patterns of thought and argumentation.
The conference is divided into six thematic blocks, ranging from literary-cultural and linguistic topics through politics and law to pedagogy and psychology.
The conference will be held in German.
This project was made possible by the financial support of the Czech-German Future Fund and the Czech-Bavarian University Agency.
