The 30th anniversary year of the Summer School of Slavonic Studies (SSSS) will once again enliven the period of the end of summer at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice

On Monday, 15 August 2022, the 30th year of the Summer School of Slavic Studies will be inaugurated at the USB Faculty of Arts, which will once again bring together foreigners from all over the world interested in the Czech language, literature, history and culture. The three-week intensive course, which always takes place at the turn of August and September, is organised by the Department of Czech Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.

The Summer School of Slavonic Studies is intended primarily for international students, professionals (teachers, translators, interpreters) and academic personnel in the field of Czech studies and Slavonic studies. However, all foreign students interested in the Czech language, literature, history and culture are of course welcome to attend the summer school. The course is designed for complete beginners, as well as for intermediate and more advanced users of Czech.

This year's 30th anniversary year will be attended by over 50 foreigners from France, Italy, Poland, Germany, Great Britain, Slovenia, Romania, Ukraine, Belgium and Croatia who want to learn or improve their Czech. Some students even participate in the SSSS repeatedly. ‘The Summer School of Slavonic Studies is not just about intensive practice in the classrooms of the USB Faculty of Arts,’ explains Mgr. Markéta Maturová, Ph.D., director of the SSSS, ‘during the course, participants can also choose from a wide range of excursions and cultural events. The programme includes visits to museums, libraries and galleries. The participants will thus get acquainted not only with the language but with Czech culture in general.’

After last year's event, which was attended by significantly fewer students due to the difficult situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic, the organisers believe that this year's event will be a celebration of the 30th birthday of this "young lady" - the SSSS - as it should be. As part of leisure activities, participants will again visit important South Bohemian sights. These activities will help the students to get to know each other and at the same time present an opportunity to practice the Czech language informally.

The SSSS has a long tradition at the University of South Bohemia, with more than a thousand students interested in studying the Czech language taking part in the programme over the course of its existence. This year, SSSS will be held at the USB Faculty of Arts from 14 August 2022 to 5 September 2022 and the opening ceremony will take place on Monday 15 August 2022 at 10 a.m. in the building of the USB Faculty of Arts.
