UK Ambassador to the Czech Republic visited USB

The British Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Matthew Robert Field, visited South Bohemia on Tuesday 23 April 2024. Part of his program was not only a meeting with the Governor of the South Bohemian Region MUDr. Martin Kuba, the Mayor of České Budějovice doc. Dr. Ing. Dagmar Škodová Parmová, a visit to the USB British Centre, but also a meeting with representatives of the management of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice and its Rector prof. Ing. Pavel Kozák, Ph.D.

During the visit to the British Centre of the University of South Bohemia, the Ambassador was acquainted with the main activities of the Centre. After the introduction of the Centre, a meeting and discussion followed with students of the České Budějovice grammar schools, who, according to the Ambassador, were curious and asked interesting questions.

In the afternoon, the Ambassador visited the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, where he met with the Vice-Rector for Development and Public Affairs PhDr. Pavel Král, Ph.D., the Vice-Rector for International Relations doc. Ing. Vladimír Žlábek, Ph.D., and the Rector of USB prof. Ing. Pavel Kozák, Ph.D. The meeting was held in a rather informal spirit and the Ambassador was mainly interested in the activities and the vision of the University of South Bohemia for the future. After a short introductory presentation of USB, a discussion on various other topics followed. The Ambassador was interested in the students of the University of South Bohemia, internationalisation and the employment of the USB graduates in the region. The possibilities of future cooperation between USB graduates and British companies and strengthening ties between the two countries in the field of research, development and innovation were also mentioned. The Ambassador was also very interested in the Arctic research within the USB Centre for Polar Ecology. The discussion also covered the topics of technology transfer and support for start-up projects, the issue of student exchange programmes and visa policy.

The whole meeting was held in a very friendly spirit and the participants confirmed their support for future cooperation.
