The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (USB) concluded a new co-operation agreement with the Taiwanese National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taichung on 29 March 2021.

The signing ceremony of the co-operation agreement was accompanied by a live online meeting of representatives of both universities who, therefore, had the opportunity to discuss specific areas of joint co-operation as well. The co-operation has been taking place on the part of the USB Faculty of Agriculture and the NCHU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources for several months already. Representatives of the managements of both universities took part in the nearly hour-long meeting. Dr Fuh-Sheng Shieu, president, Dr Jenn-Wen Huang, vice president, Dr Chia-Lin Chang, vice president for international affairs, and Dr Fuh-Jyh Jan, dean of the college of agriculture and natural resources, took part representing the National Chung Hsing University. Professor PhDr. Bohumil Jiroušek, Dr, rector, Associate Professor PaedDr. Radka Závodská, Ph.D., vice-rector for international relations, Associate Professor RNDr. Petr Bartoš, Ph.D., dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Associate Professor Ing. Petr Konvalina, Ph.D., vice-dean for international relations of the Faculty of Agriculture, took part in the virtual meeting representing USB. Dr Hong-Wei Yen, director of Science and Technology Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Czech Republic (TECO), Prague, who had visited USB in June and substantially contributed to the establishment of the co-operation of the two universities, was a special guest at the meeting as well.

The main topic of the discussion was the introduction of specific steps in the preparation of joint research projects oriented towards presently very current topics in the areas of biological control and smart agriculture in connection to strategies of Agriculture 4.0, i.e. development of digitalisation of traditional agriculture.

The new co-operation also brings new opportunities in the areas of education and mobility exchange programmes for students and academic staff of USB.
