University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice obtained a prestigious HR AWARD

The certificate HR AWARD (HR Excellence in Research Award) is granted by the European Commission to research institutions that foster and develop international and transparent work environment. The University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (USB) received the HR AWARD certification on 22nd July 2019.

USB worked towards obtaining the certification for over a year and a half and by receiving it, the university committed itself to further improve conditions for researchers and other employees.

„Receiving the HR Award is a great success, as well as a big challenge. While it will not be easy to implement all set targets and it still means a lot of work, I am convinced that the certification will increase the university prestige and it shows the fact, that we are able to create a transparent and motivating work environment open to both Czech and significant international researchers. Science is without limits and so it is necessary to be opened to the world, “says the Rector of South Bohemian University doc. Tomáš Machula, Ph.D., Th.D.

This award does not only mean benefits for researchers, it will positively influence all university staff. „Thanks to the HR Award certification, it will be easier for us to apply for financial funds from different prestigious grants, “added the Rector of the University of South Bohemia.

People are the most important and a necessary part of a successful research organisation. The University, within its Action plan, is for example planning to develop a bilingual work environment, OTM-R politics, post-doc politics and to implement the creation of the system for working positions.

Obtaining of the award means significant benefits for the university:

  • Increasing the university prestige and attractiveness for researchers (in the Czech Republic and abroad),
  • Linking to a Pan-European network of researchers and organizations,
  • Acquisition of research funding (from European and national programs to support research) – preference in TACR, HORIZON 2020 and others,
  • Increased quality of care for human resources,
  • Creating conditions for a more sustainable and attractive career in the field of R&D.

Obtaining the HR Award at USB is addressed within the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education, specifically the project Development of USB – Capacities for R&D, that is co-financed by the European Union.
