University of South Bohemia awarded title doctor honoris causa to world known physicist

24th September 2014 the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice awarded honorary doctorate in the field of biophysics to professor Villy Sundström. The awarded ceremony was in ceremonial hall of Česke Budějovice Townhall.

Villy Sundström is professor of chemical physics at Lund University in Sweeden. He belongs to top world scientist in the field of time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy – method that enables to observe extremely fast events on molecular level. Together with other colegues he was one of the first in the world that managed to measure time constant of energy and electron transport in photosynthesis and therefore opened a way for study of fast processes in photosynthesis as we know it today.

„It is great honor for me to be awarded with title doctor honoris causa from University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. Research of University of South Bohemia, Lund University and many other universities and research institutes is focused on important goals. I am convinced that in next 10 to 15 years we will be witnesses of great scientific discoveries which will cause that solar energy will be used more than nowdays,“ Villy Sundström mentionend in his speech.

Faculty of Science USB with Villy Sundström and his laboratory in Lund are longterm cooperating in research but also in interships for research assistants and postdocs. Up to date 18 conjoint publications are result of cooperation between these two institutions.
