The Academic Senate of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice on Monday, February 8, 2016 at its meeting elected the Rector for the term 2016-2020.
The Senate chose from three candidates, who were the present-day Rector of the University of South Bohemia (USB) Prof. Libor Grubhoffer, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of USB Prof. Miloslav Šoch and Prof. Pavel Kozák, the Director of the Research Institute of Fishery and Hydrobiology of the Faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters of USB. The election had three rounds. In none of the rounds the candidate for the Rector received the majority of votes, so the Rector was not elected. For this reason, the Academic Senate of USB announced the fourth election. It will be held on March 3, 2016.
The election had three rounds, which is the maximum that is allowed by the Electoral and Procedural Rules of the Academic Senate of USB. According to these rules, the candidates with the highest number of votes could advance to the second round. They were Prof. Libor Grubhoffer and Prof. Pavel Kozák. However, none of these candidates received neither in the second nor in the third round the overall majority of votes, i.e. at least 21 senators´ support of forty members of the Senate.
The Rector of USB is elected by the Academic Senate of USB, which has 40 members consisting of representatives from all eight faculties. Each faculty is represented by five senators - three academics and two students. The new Rector is elected if at least 21 senators has voted for him. Today, however, it did not happen in the course of all three rounds, therefore the Academic Senate of USB announced the fourth election.The term in office of the current Rector of USB Prof. Libor Grubhoffer ends on March 31, 2016.
