announce with deep grief the sudden death of

Prof. Ing. Magdalena Hrabánková, CSc., Dr. h. c., Prof. h. c.,

Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice,

Prof. Ing. Magdalena Hrabánková, CSc., Dr. h. c., Prof. h. c., was a graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. In 1999 she defended her habilitation thesis in the branch Enterprise Organization and Management. In 2004 she was appointed Professor in the field of Sector Economics and Management at the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

In appreciation of her long-term professional cooperation with experts at the universities in Hungary, Prof. Hrabánková was granted the degree of Prof. h. c. by the Rector of Szent Istvan University in Gödöllö in the year 2007, and in May 2011 she obtained the degree of Dr. h. c. for her long-term research and publication activities. From the year 2002 Prof. Hrabánková was engaged as an advisor to the Minister of Agriculture. Prof. Hrabánková was a distinguished expert in the field of EU structural policy and its application under the conditions of the Czech Republic, in regional planning and management. She published numerous monographs, studies and articles focused on the problems existing within the mentioned fields.

Prof. Ing. Magdalena Hrabánková, CSc., Dr. h. c., Prof. h. c., started her professional activities at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice in 1996. In the period preceding the transformation of the Faculty of Agriculture she was the head of the faculty till 2007. On December 1, 2007 she was elected the Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the University of South Bohemia. From March 1, 2011 Prof. Hrabánková became the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.

With the passing of Madame Rector the University of South Bohemia has lost an outstanding personality representing exceptional scientific, pedagogical and moral qualities. The name of Madame Rector will remain an inseparable part of the history of the University.
