The University of South Bohemia scores in international rankings again

The results of another year of one of the most prestigious world rankings, “The Times Higher Education World University Rankings”, were published for the year 2021 at the beginning of September of this year. The University of South Bohemia ranked among the best once again. The University ranked in the 801-1000 range out of universities evaluated in 93 countries and thereby the University retained its ranking from the previous year.

The University of South Bohemia improved its ranking by one position in the context of Czech higher educational institutions and ranked in the 4th place out of 18 higher educational institutions that were evaluated under “THE World University Rankings 2021” in the Czech Republic. “For us, this excellent ranking is another international confirmation of the fact that we belong to the best Czech higher educational institutions. It gives us all the more joy that 2021 will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of South Bohemia,” commented Professor Bohumil Jiroušek, PhDr., Dr. on the repeated success of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.

Once again, universities were evaluated on the basis of 13 calibrated performance indicators in the ranking entitled “The Times Higher Education World University Rankings” comparing achieved results in the areas of education, research, knowledge transfer and internationalisation.

The University has prospered not only on the global scale but also in the regional ranking (The Times Higher Education Emerging Economy University Rankings), the ranking of so-called young universities i.e. universities no more than 50 years old (The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings) or in some subject rankings. The high standard of the University of South Bohemia is also confirmed by other respected global rankings of higher educational institutions. For instance, it is the current ranking entitled “Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities 2020” (ARWU). Its first part was published in the middle of August of this year and the University of South Bohemia ranked in the 901-1000 range out of more than 2000 evaluated universities. Thereby the University confirmed its ranking from the previous two years. The University also encountered successes is some subject rankings (Agricultural Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, Environmental Science and Engineering and Ecology). The best result was the ranking in the 101-150 range in the subject ranking entitled “Ecology” as well as the fact that it also ranked in the first place among evaluated higher educational institutions in the Czech Republic. “In 2020, the University of South Bohemia also achieved the same ranking in the new academic ranking entitled “Three University Missions Moscow International University Ranking” (MosIUR) as in the ARWU ranking. The University placed in the 901-1000 range in the context of evaluated universities from 97 countries in the world,” Professor Bohumil Jiroušek, the Rector of the University of South Bohemia, added to the list of successes. This ranking that was first published only in 2017, and the creation of which was initiated by the Russian Union of Rectors, evaluates three key areas – education (45 %), research (25 %) and social impact of the university’s activity (30 %). Evaluated universities are judged on the basis of 16 criteria in total and the areas of education and research cover four criteria while the area of social impact covers the remaining 8 criteria.
