The University has finished modifications in the central part of the campus

The University of South Bohemia finished modifications in the central part of the campus at Branišovská street in May. The modifications were done in two phases from spring 2014.

The grassy area among the building of the Rectorate/ Faculty of Philosophy, auditorium, halls of residence, academic library and university refectory has turned into a park with planted trees, shrubs and flowers. The aim of the modifications was to create a quiet zone in the campus, where students and visitors will have the chance to have a sit-down and relax. There has not been such a place in the campus till now.
The original grassy area has gained a look of a tidy park with greenery. There were installed benches - classic wooden ones and modern metal ones, including designer "cubes" that students use to have a sit-down between lessons or in the evenings. Throughout the whole park there were planted 22 kinds of deciduous trees, 6 kinds of coniferous trees, and 20 species of shrubs, a total of nearly 1,600 trees and shrubs. There were created several new paths, which naturally connect individual parts of the campus. Next to the benches were installed modern column lamps. Havel´s place was placed in the park as the fifth one in the world last year. Another special feature of the park is a so-called membrane shelter, which is located behind the Rectorate. It is not just an interesting aesthetic element, but thanks to the integrated lighting, it can be used for special occasions and for cultural events in the evenings. In the future, there will be held concerts and theatrical performances.
Modifications in the central part of the campus took place in two phases. The first phase was implemented from February to May 2014. It was followed by a second phase, which began in September 2014 and ended in May this year.
The author of the modifications of the campus the architect Jaromir Kročák from České Budějovice. The total cost of the modifications of the campus were almost 13 million Czech crowns without VAT. A part of the costs were paid using European subsidies.
