The first place of the University of South Bohemia among „young“ universities in the Czech Republic was confirmed by the THE ranking.

After the University of South Bohemia gained the highest possible rating from the Research, Development and Innovation Council of the Government of the Czech Republic (R&D&I Council) in April of this year as the only university established after 1989, another great news has arrived. On Wednesday, June 24, the University also received the best ranking from the prestigious and globally respected ranking of higher education institutions the Times Higher Education (THE) in the context of “young” HEI from the Czech Republic.

In fact, it is the first time that the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice has placed in the THE Young University Rankings that belongs in the group of THE World University Rankings. In this year’s results that were made public on June 24, 2020, the University of South Bohemia placed in 201.-250. place globally and in 1 place in the context of higher education institutions from the Czech Republic. 5 Czech higher education institutions placed in the ranking in total, other than the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, it was the University of Ostrava, the Tomas Bata University in Zlin, the University of West Bohemia in Plzen and the University of Hradec Králové.

“I am very glad that the great rating of the University of South Bohemia from the Government of the Czech Republic from April of this year is affirmed by an international classification as well. That is all the more true considering that the ranking concerned is the Times Higher Education ranking. The rising prestige of the University of South Bohemia is, therefore, demonstrable over a long period of time by a series of awards and great placings in comparative rankings”, remarked prof. PhDr. Bohumil Jiroušek, Dr., the Rector of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.

The ranking THE Young University Rankings reports placings of the best universities worldwide that are younger than 50 years according to the same 13 performance indicators, as is the case with the global ranking The World University Rankings. Only some selected indicators are valued differently.

Due to this excellent placing in the ranking THE Young University Rankings 2020, the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice is building on its successes in the context of the group of rankings THE World University Rankings where the University scored not only in the global ranking (801.-1000. place), but also in the regional ranking THE Emerging Economies University Rankings (201.-250. place) and field rankings „Life Sciences“ (301.-400. place) and „Clinical, pre-clinical & health“ (601.+ place).
