Summer schools at the University of South Bohemia

As a tradition all over the years summer holiday period at the University of South Bohemia is dedicated to summer schools and courses. This year, our faculties and departments organize 12 summer schools.

The offer is very rich, our faculties organize events focused e.g. on biology, foreign language studies, fishery, archeology, enterpreneurship environment or migration and the summer schools are designed for adults and children. Students come from all over the Czech Republic but also from Abroad. Most of the summer courses také place in July and the oldest summer schools are courses focused on foreign languages. Summer school of Slavonic studies and also the summer school of German language, so calles Sommerkolleg are hold this year for the 24th time.

Overview of summer schools:

•  European Culture and Business Environment

The faculty of Economics with the cooperation of the Australian Victoria University in Melbourne organizes its fifth International summer school focused on learning about central-european culture and enterpreneurship environment. It is designed for students of management, marketing and International trade. 20 students from the partner Victoria University také part and except lectures and excursions to South-bohemian companies, they also visit the European parliament and European comission. The summer schools is held from the 20.6. – 20.7.2015.

• Summer school for high-school students and Schola ludus for university students 

Both events are held from 28.6.  till 25.7. and i tis organized by the Department of complex systems of the faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters. Participants form the Czech Republic and Abroad work under the supervision of professionals on their own scientific projects in top-class equipped laboratories. At the end of the course, the students present their work to the comitee of professionals.

•  International summer school of Fisheries 2015

The faculty of Fisheries and Protection of Waters organize a summer school designed for bachelor, master and doctoral students from 29. 6. -  24. 7. It is focused on Fisheries and Protection of Waters. During the course the students will také part in solving a small scientific project. The programme will be liven up by specialized lectures of Czech and foreign scientists. Participants will also make excursions around the fishery workplace of they will end the course with presentation of their work.

•   Summer school  of Archeology

The 10th year of the Summer school  of Archeology takes place in Netolice from 13. 7. - 24. 7.

The summer school destined to the students of archeology at the faculty of Philosophy, who do their professional practice there. The course is organized by the Department of Archeology at the faculty of Philosophy and the PAPAVER Center focused on the studies of human being and plants in Europe and North Africa in the Ice Age. The summer school is primarily focused on the research of the earli medieval fortified settlement, where one of the centeres of power in South Bohemia was situated in the 10th and 13th century.

•  Summer camp with Biology

3rd year of the summer camp organized by the faculty of Sciense will také place from 2. – 14. 8. The aim is to give the children insight in the rich world of biology and science. The main topic of the camp is game „Conquest of the South Pole“. Children will have the opportunity to become the old arctic explorers who need to overcome a lot of different obstacles and who discover the mysteries of nature in the Arctic.

•  Suburban summer camp with Biology

The suburban camp is intended for small school children - researchers who, led by experts from the Faculty of Science, will get in touch with science. Children will look into the laboratories of the faculty where they will try a couple of basic scientific methods and experiments. Accompanied by botanists, entomologists and ornithologists they will set out into the field to collect samples and try to find out something interesting from the world of plants and animals that live around us. This year will be held the second edition. It will take place from 17. -  21. 8.

•  Summer School of Migration

The 7th edition of the Summer School focused on migration is organized by the Faculty of Education and International organoization for Migration (IOM Prague). This year, the school is focused on finding effective ways of cooperation within local communities with a higher risk of conflict based on ethnic, religious and other differences. The program offers a combination of theoretical lectures, interactive workshops, examples of good practice as well as activities related to culture. The summer school is designed for university students and the public. Dates: 17. – 22. 8.

• Summer School of Slavonic Studies

The Institute of Czech Studies of the Philosophical Faculty organizes the Summer School of Slavonic Studies this year for the 24th time. The school is designed for foreigners - for students of Czech studies and Slavic studies, teachers, translators, and virtually all those interested in Czech language. Within three weeks, participants attend language courses and lectures focusing on linguistics, literature, history and architecture. To get to know local realities, participants will visit important monuments and sites. It will take place from 17. 8. – 4. 9. 

A week with present-day biology

The event is intended to selected high school students from all over the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Participants, led by experts,  discover how modern biologists work and what themes and issues do they solve in their research. The students will try the work in field, in laboratory and on computer. The program will also be enriched by lectures, films and games. The Week with biology will be held from 31. 8. -  5. 9.
